AppleSetupRedux is a very simple Mac OS X script that will restore the system settings back to a factory-type state with just a click. This can be useful when you want to run the Apple Setup Assistant again for personal purposes or when distributing it to customers or other persons.
The utility comes with a dialog window with explanations that give you an overall idea of what it does. Moreover, to avoid accidentally resetting your system preferences when launching the app, you must type in ‘setupreset’ in a small box in order to begin the process.
The AppleSetupRedux app also tells you to make sure to save and close all documents first. By default, the word ‘Nevermind’ is shown.
After resetting the machine’s factory settings, the Apple Setup Assistant will run at the next computer reboot. This allows you to re-configure your Mac all over again, but with all your previous 3rd party data intact on your hard drive.
To conclude, AppleSetupRedux is a simple OS X script that provides a user-friendly solution for resetting the system settings. Using the script is a breeze and it does the job on the spot. What’s more, it was carefully designed and forces you type a confirmation word before proceeding.
