About This Mac alternative that works on both Hackintosh devices and Apple Macs, provides more info, and preserves the pre-Ventura design language. #Hackintosh Info #About This Mac #System Info #Hackintosh #About #System
Among the many other changes brought on by macOS Ventura was a redesign of the System Preferences menu and About This Mac window. The new design provides less info, and it can cause problems with some hardware and Hackintosh devices.
About This Hack tries to bring back the information window available in Monterey and earlier macOS versions, with even more info presented in the Overview tab. It includes support for AMD processors and Hackintosh.
Apple’s visual redesign in macOS Ventura received mixed reviews, but there’s no question that the About This Mac info screen is inferior to the old one. You get less information right off the bat, and accessing more details requires opening System Preferences.
And as always, those who’ve installed macOS on devices not made by Apple tend to struggle with any of these kinds of changes, especially since About This Mac provides hardware information and is directly tied to it.
When you start up the app, you’ll notice it looks almost exactly like the old About This Mac window. The only noticeable difference is that it also includes information about your connected display.
The Displays tab just lists your connected monitors and lets you access the Displays section of System Preferences.
Lastly, the Storage tab shows some basic info about your startup disk. Sadly, you don’t get as many details as in the old version of About This Mac or the Storage section in System Preferences.
About This Hack is worth trying if the new version of the system information window offers too little details for your tastes, and especially if it doesn’t play well with your non-Apple hardware. It makes the data more easily accessible, and it brings back the pre-Ventura look of the About This Mac window.
What's new in About This Hack 1.1.1:
- No changes, just notarization! As you may know, as a student, I don't have the funds to buy an Apple Developer License and properly sign my apps. As a result, my apps often get revoked or blocked by Gatekeeper. Hopefully this will change, but for the foreseeable future, I will have to make do with a free apple dev account.
- Thanks to someone on my Discord, however, we have a notarized build of v1.1.0 that I am calling v1.1.1!
