MacBooks are enticing targets for anyone trying to score a free laptop, and you can’t watch them like a hawk every time you’re using them in public. Even if you leave them unattended for a few seconds, someone might try to grab them.

Unplug Alarm provides you with a powerful extra layer of security, working as a deterrent, alarm signal, and identifier. It makes it clear that the device is protected, and if that fails, it triggers a loud alarm and takes a photo of whoever is trying to steal the MacBook.

For starters, the app displays an overlay warning and can automatically lock the device while active. If that doesn’t work, a loud alarm will be sounded when the laptop is unplugged from the charger or the lid is closed. You can choose which of these security methods to activate. The alarm can only be disabled with your password or touch ID.

A photo can be taken at the moment the alarm is triggered, and both that photo and a notification can be sent to your phone or tablet. This requires the client app to be installed on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Limitations in the unregistered version

Notifications and sending pictures to the mobile app require subscription; they are not available via the one-time purchase.
