PeerGuardian For Mac

PeerGuardian is a firewall application that can filter network traffic based on predefined hosts lists. The project has been created to provide a protection system while using P2P, but is no longer under development.

As you launch the PeerGuardian application for the first time, you are prompted to install a helper tool and relaunch the network application in order to begin filtering your connections.

Within the PeerGuardian main window, you get to manage your lists configurations and effortlessly create new ones. In each case, you need to decide if you allow all ranges or only standard ports, provide the host list URL, or choose a file.

For your convenience, PeerGuardian enables you to toggle the configuration status quickly and offers you the possibility to assign a custom name in order to make it easier to identify the host lists types.

Once you have enabled the host lists filter you want to employ, PeerGuardian will start blocking network connections, and you get to see a log with the app’s activity and review the statistical analysis.

PeerGuardian records the number of blocked addresses and lets you know the number of incoming, outgoing, and total blocks and allows. The app will transpose the data in a graph that can update in real time or at user selected intervals.

The best part is that you can easily disable all PeerGuardian filters and allow all incoming or outgoing connections. However, having the protection system in place when using the P2P protocol is advisable.

Bottom line, PeerGuardian is a customizable firewall application that can work with virtually any host list, depending on what you are working on.

The PeerGuardian app comes with predefined configurations for blocking ads, spyware, or aggressive IPs, but you can easily create your own settings.

Keep in mind though that the PeerGuardian app is not developed anymore, yet the original authors will gladly accept other contributors.
