One of the fundamental security guidelines you need to follow to make sure your accounts cannot be accessed without your knowledge is to use a different passkey in each case.
Password Pig is an alternative solution for keeping track of all these passwords: you get to organize accounts by category, store the information on the developer’s servers in encrypted mode, and sync the database to all devices that use the same account.
To start using the Password Pig app, you need to register for an account free of charge and set a master password. The utility will use the information to encrypt and sync your database to the cloud.
Password Pig comes with companion clients for all the other major platforms, such as Windows, iOS, and Android, which means that you have the option to access your passwords database on all your devices with minimal effort.
Note that the Password Pig service will store the master key as an SHA-512 hash on the device and then uses the AES-256 algorithm to encrypt the data. You can learn more about the service’s privacy policy on the developer’s website.
At the same time, if you forget your password, Password Pig can reset it as long as you provide the username, the email address, and the answer to the security question.
For your convenience, Password Pig comes with a collection of categories and example entries that you can use when adding new entries to the database. Password Pig also allows you to create custom account forms, but keep in mind you cannot add new groups.
In the example forms, you get to input the username and password, assign it to a category, set a website address and any other information you might find relevant. The drawback is that the passkey for each account will be displayed in the app’s main window, as plain text.
Worth mentioning is that Password Pig automatically logs out from your account after 5 minutes of inactivity, but still, storing passwords in an unmasked form is not a very secure practice.
Bottom line, using a secure password manager is imperative to preserve your accounts safe from unauthorized access, but securing the data while making it easily accessible can prove to be quite challenging.
Password Pig focuses on delivering a user-friendly solution for dealing with the task but forgets about certain safety precautions, such as hiding the passkeys or allowing the user to set the logout interval.
Since the Password Pig service is able to reset the master key for the account, integrating a two steps authorization system might also be useful. On the other hand, the app also lacks basic management functions, such as the possibility to add new password categories.
