Logsnap For Mac

Logsnap is a minimalist Mac OS X application that seamlessly integrates with your operating system and captures photos using your iSight camera under user defined circumstances.

The idea behind the application is to show you who has tried to use your Mac in your absence. However, neither the app’s user interface not the output folder are protected in any way, so the app can be easily deactivated by other users, and the images sent to the trash.

The Logsnap application resides in your status bar, and you can easily adjust its behavior via a small panel. You get to set up a custom output folder and to activate the monitoring service.

You can decide when should the app actually grab snapshots if it detects a face in front of your computer: always, if the screen has been locked, if the Login Panel has been accessed, or on Login Panel Shake (it means that someone used the wrong passkey for your user account).

Noteworthy is that, if other users manage to access your computer and know about the Logsnap application, the security component becomes rather inexistent: the user interface is not password protected so the monitoring service can be deactivated in no time.

What’s more, the output folder can be instantly located, and any images that have been captured can be sent to the trash.

To work around this issue, make sure that you always activate your screensaver or you lock your screen when you leave your Mac.

Via the System Preferences ensure that the system password in requested immediately after the screen is locked. Lastly, use a strong user password and do not share it with others.
