HouseCall For Mac

HouseCall is a minimalist OS X application that can scan your system to check for any security threats, such as malicious software, viruses, trojans, worms, and so on.

Worth mentioning is that HouseCall currently sports one type of scan which does not allow you to work with custom directories.

In fact, the app directs you to a more advanced security tool, Trend Micro Internet Security that comes as a commercial product. However, you do get to try the Trend Micro Internet Security app for 30 days without having to purchase the app.

The HouseCall user interface is represented by a simple window where you can quickly start the scanning process. You get to monitor the scan's progress in the app’s main window and see if there are any threats detected and how much time has elapsed.

During our tests, on a 2GHz Mac mini Server with 8GB or RAM running on macOS Sierra, HouseCall managed to complete the scanning in a couple of seconds. Even though your Mac is clean, you are advised to get the Trend Micro Internet Security app as a precaution measure.

After you complete at least one scan, within the HouseCall main window you will see an additional button that directs you to the scan results panel.

Here you get to see the list of completed scans: just select one of them to view the files that have been marked as containing security threats, the name of the security threat, and the action that has been performed.

Even though HouseCall offers you the possibility to restore any of the listed files, you are advised to be careful because the action might have a serious impact on your system’s security.

Bottom line, HouseCall can quickly scan your Mac, detect malicious software, and deal with the threats. You get to see the actions performed by the app in the scan log and restore the files if you see fit.
