Receive notifications when your WiFi speed falls below a certain threshold, and get reconnected automatically to avoid dropping out of conference calls #WiFi Monitor #Reconnect WiFi #TX Rate Monitor #WiFi #Wi-Fi #TX Rate
Unstable WiFi connections are annoying at the best of times, but when you're relying on them for team conference calls or other work-related activities, they become more than just a minor hindrance.
yFi is a free app designed to help you deal with inconsistent WiFi by monitoring your TX rate at all times and notifying you when a connection drop is imminent. What's more, it can reconnect automatically to get you up and running again as quickly as possible.
yFi runs in your menu bar at all times, where it displays the current TX rate, which indicates the quality of the connection between your device and the WiFi router. If it drops below a certain value, a video call may cut out or you may lose connectivity entirely.
The app monitors this parameter, and it can notify you or re-establish the WiFi connection when the TX rate falls below a user-defined threshold. Of course, it won't help you if the signal or the router's Internet connection are lost, but it should make a difference when connected to unstable WiFi.
As I've already mentioned, yFi runs only in the menu bar, and you can choose to hide the TX rate if you're not interested in keeping an eye on the value. The app will still display notifications or reconnect when necessary.
The limit can be set to a value that is most suitable for your particular use case. A bit of trial and error is needed here, as any TX rate above the threshold has to be enough for a stable connection, but you don't want to receive constant notifications either.
There is no guarantee that yFi will solve your WiFi problems, but it's worth a try if nothing else has helped. It may be enough to keep you from dropping out of video calls all the time, and it's completely free anyway, so you won't lose anything by giving it a go.
