Remote Desktop - VNC is a simple and minimal-looking Mac OS X application that provides a frontend to Apple’s Screen Sharing application. In other words, Remote Desktop - VNC allows you to connect to the desktop of other Macs in your network via Screen Sharing without having to open Screen Sharing initially.

If you launch both Screen Sharing and Remote Desktop - VNC at the same time, you will notice very small differences in the user interface. In both windows, you must enter the VNC address of the computer you want to connect to. The only differences are the titles (for the same button, field or bar).

After entering a VNC address in Remote Desktop - VNC, a subsequent window, which explicitly shows that the Screen Sharing app is used, will be displayed. This window prompts you to choose the connection type, the name and password of the target Mac.

As you might expect, the target desktop will be accessible to you from the Screen Sharing window. In a nutshell, Remote Desktop - VNC does not offer any extra option or feature and works exactly the same as Screen Sharing.

To sum up, Remote Desktop - VNC is a tiny wrapper of OS X’s Screen Sharing app that enables you to control a remote Mac’s desktop. Although it has nothing new to provide in terms of features, it might come in handy to users who are unaware of the existence of Screen Sharing.
