A small Mac OS X application designed to help you query for a specified NTP server in order to view the contents of a NTP packet. #NTP query #NTP packet viewer #View NTP packet #Query #NTP #Packet
Servers are using the Network Time Protocol (NTP) to synchronize the clock between all computers connected to the network. To verify if your NTP server is working properly, NTPQ is a small application that can test the server response.
NTPQ is designed to query a NTP server and then allows you to analyze the packet send back by the server. This way you are able to examine the server response.
Working with NTPQ is fairly easy: simply input the server you want to evaluate and press the “Run Query” button or press the Command + R keyboard combination.
NTPQ will display the IP address, the Leap indicator, the version, the mode, the peer clock stratum and the peer clock precision, the root delay, the root dispersion, the reference ID, the reference clock update time, the originate time stamp, the receive time stamp and the transmit time stamp.
To conclude, if you need a detailed analysis on how your NTP server responds to queries, NTPQ is able to provide this type of information.
