Image metadata can be very helpful for organizing images, and it’s normally added by cameras and phones automatically. However, sometimes the data is incomplete or needs to be corrected.

MetaCopy is an open-source app that provides you with an easy way to transfer metadata from one image to multiple others. It comes with a very simple UI and allows you to select which details are copied.

It’s all very straightforward: you drop the source image on the left, and the destination images on the right. If you want to transfer metadata to a whole album, you can drop the whole folder. Previews will be displayed, which can help ensure you have the right files.

Assuming the source photo has metadata info attached, it will be displayed below the previews. You can sort entries by name or prefix and select which of them should be copied. It's all simple enough, but it would help if entries could be split into categories, such as GPS and sensor info.

MetaCopy works great if you need to quickly transfer some metadata between images, though it does become somewhat harder to use if you have multiple sets of photos you need to work with, or in the case of very large albums.

The app is written entirely in Swift, with a clean, intuitive interface, and it runs as fast as you can expect. It also comes in a very small package.

Of course, MetaCopy would be more versatile with some additional functionality, but the limited feature set is somewhat of a bonus in and of itself. As long as you’re not processing hundreds of photos at once, you can transfer metadata in less time than it might take to just launch a more complex app.
