Chapter tracks are usually added to movies in order to improve the video navigation by allowing the user to jump directly to a particular scene. ChapterWork is a straightforward OS X utility that enables you to process your own videos, add chapter tracks, and give them more or less relevant names.

The ChapterWork workflow is project based, so to get started you need to create a new project by selecting the video you want to process. The utility enables you to preview the video content with the help of a built-in video player that incorporates basic functions.

On the left side of the app’s main window you can quickly create new chapter tracks and titles: give them any name you like and then use the appropriate button to associate a time stamp.

For your convenience, ChapterWork offers you the possibility to quickly duplicate an entry, allows you to assign the additional information to either the audio or video track, or to employ multiple languages.

Naturally, both the chapter tracks and the titles can be removed, and you can choose to preview the track’s chapter markers to verify your work. Once you are satisfied with the results, just press the Export button, and ChapterWork will start generating the output video.

ChapterWork is able to import all the video file formats supported by the AVFoundation framework, but the output will always be a MOV file.

The utility offers you the possibility to work on multiple projects at the same time, and you can monitor the export progress in the Export Activity panel. Moreover, you will receive a desktop notification each time ChapterWork finishes a task.

To conclude, ChapterWork proposes an efficient solution for adding custom chapter tracks and titles to your videos and also integrates batch processing and sharing capabilities.

However, the output file format is limited to MOV, which means that you need to use third party apps to make your videos compatible with a wider range of devices.
