Razen is a PCB design software solution that enables you to design circuit boards with the help of a user-friendly schematic and layout editor.
Note that having Mercurial installed on your system is required to use the app: Razen is using this resource for version control, sharing and collaborating with all team members.
Razen comes with a working area where you get to use various editing tools (selection, add component, wire, line, arc, text, measure, duplicate, move, or Rtree) and preview the results in real time.
You get to see details about each included object in the Properties panel and even change the values of certain parameters. Razen can work with layers and assigns them different colors so you can comfortably read the scheme.
Worth mentioning is that Razen comes with a built-in components library, but you can also import third-party libraries. Moreover, the utility features a tabbed user interface, which means that you get to open multiple projects at the same time.
Within the Razen Preferences, you get to set up a Mercurial account or decide to provide the credentials for your Bitbucket account (Razen will work with any Mercurial server). The integration provides version control, sharing, and collaboration capabilities.
On the other hand, Razen relies on Python to allow the user to interact with the project’s historical logs. In fact, the Razen functionalities can be extended by using user designed Python scripts and plugins.
To sum up, Razen provides suitable editing tools for creating print circuit boards with the help of third party components libraries, while also enabling the user to edit library elements.
On the other hand, Razen integrates with Mercurial, which translates into version control and sharing capabilities. The fact that Razen also comes with a Python API means that the user can extend its abilities even more by using scripts and plug-ins.
