Computes transmission curves through the intergalactic medium and the effect on galaxy colours #Compute transmission curve #Transmission curve computation #Monte Carlo simulation #Compute #Transmission #Curve
IGMtransmission is a free and open-source application which implements Monte Carlo simulations to compute the corrections to colours of high-redshift galaxies due to intergalactic attenuation based on current models of the Intergalactic Medium.
IGMtransmission takes into account the effects of absorption due to neutral hydrogen, with particular attention to the stochastic effects of Lyman Limit Systems.
The effect of the attenuation on the colours of galaxies is computed for a wide sample of filters and simulated galaxy spectra. Alternatively, the code allows the user to upload their own filter response curves and spectra.
IGMtransmission is a cross-platform utility capable of running on any operating system that comes with Java support (e.g. Mac OS X, Windows, Linux).
Detailed instructions on how to install and use the IGMtransmission utility on your Mac are available HERE.
