Windscribe is a VPN service that offers you the possibility to protect your anonymity while also bypassing any geolocation restrictions.
You can connect to the service using a small macOS utility that resides in your status bar while the companion browser extension helps you block any beacons that might try to track your online activity.
Right off the bat, you must create a Windscribe account free of charge in order to be able to connect to the service. You will need the credentials to login via the desktop client or through the browser add-on, but keep in mind that is not obligatory to install both software solutions.
Via the Windscribe status bar menu, you get to select the location of the VPN server you want to connect to and choose to enable the firewall function.
The latter makes sure that all your internet connections go through the Windscribe servers by completely blocking any other attempts. This is extremely useful if you want to make sure your real IP address is not exposed if the VPN connection drops.
Note that the Windscribe desktop client will direct all connections through the VPN servers, which means that if you also route your browser traffic, you will be creating a DoubleHop. Since the traffic is masked twice, your internet speed might be slowed down.
However, by using the Windscribe web browser add-on you can utilize the VPN service to block ads, to remove all social buttons, to remove all trackers or ad beacons, or to rotate the user agent in order to prevent browser fingerprinting.
Moreover, the Windscribe add-on also includes a secure link generator that creates a report card for any website that you can share with others. This way, you get to help them understand the amount of tracking practiced by each website.
Windscribe is a simple VPN client that can help you route your traffic through third party servers to protect your anonymity and block tracking attempts. You can also bypass most geolocation limitations.
Windscribe comes with multiple connection modes that use different protocols and ports. As a result, you will be able to access the VPN service even if a certain port is blocked or if the provider is trying to track down VPN usage.
