Where is a simple desktop Whois lookup utility that can provide you with some basic information about a specified domain or IP address, as well as display its location on the map. The application is very easy to use and has a simple, minimalistic interface.

Where could not be simpler to use, and this should become clear as soon as you launch it for the first time. The bulk of the interface is made up of the interactive world map, which is based on the native Apple Mapkit. The only other element is the title bar, which houses the input field and a button that brings up the OS X share menu.

All you need to do is type or paste the web domain or IP address you are interested in and press Enter. The application then takes you to its location, plants a marker on the map and displays some relevant details.

Once the map has been centered on the right location, you can view details related to the domain or address in the lower-left corner of the interface, namely its city, country, latitude, longitude, IP address, ISP, ASN and web server.

This data can be sent to the various applications available through the standard OS X share menu, but it would help if there were an easier way to export it. Unfortunately, it is not possible to simply send the information to the clipboard.

Where, as you would expect, does not provide the same amount of information as many online services, but it has the advantage of not requiring a web browser to be used.

It is a shame that the app cannot be integrated into the menu bar, as it would offer a simple method of obtaining data about certain domains with a couple of mouse clicks, while also staying out of your way.
