To bypass possible issues, Tor Messenger comes with an assistant designed to help you connect to the Tor network even if you internet connection is censored, or you need to use proxies. Just follow the onscreen instructions and provide all the necessary information.

The next step is to set up the accounts you want to use with the Tor Messenger application. The utility provides support for multiple transport networks, such as Facebook Chat, Google Talk, IRC, Odnoklassniki, Twitter, Jabber (XMPP), and Yahoo.

Note that you do not have to keep all your accounts connected all the time: via the Tor Messenger Accounts window you can easily manage the accounts connection status.

Moreover, in the Tor Messenger Contacts window you will be able to see a list with all contacts associated with your accounts, but only when the connections are active.

Once the technical details are taken care of, the Tor Messenger main window can be used to quickly start a new conversation or join a chat room.

By default, all conversations are encrypted, but to start a private chat the other user must also employ an OTR-enabled client. Otherwise, your messages will not be sent.

To sum up, Tor Messenger builds on Instantbird and automatically sends all the traffic over the Tor network in order to provide a secure instant messaging solution.
