Sub It For Mac

Non-native English speakers and users who don't know English need to use subtitles when viewing movies, for further expanding their English knowledge and for understanding the dialogue, respectively.

Sub It is a free and easy to use subtitle downloader utility for macOS, based on the Subliminal library and designed to make it easier to find subtitles for your movies via multiple online subtitle providers.

Moreover, Sub It comes with support for grabbing captions from popular subtitle providers like Addic7ed, TheSubDB, Podnapisi, TvSubtitles, and OpenSubtitles, as well as less known ones such as Shooter, SubsCenter, NapiProjekt, and LegendasTV.

Unfortunately, even though Sub It comes with a built-in dependency installer, we haven't been able to make it work, and, thus, you will first have to install the Subliminal CLI before actually starting to use the app.

To do that, you can use Homebrew's command line interface to run the "brew install subliminal" command in a Terminal window. Once the installation process finishes, you can launch the Sub It and start downloading subtitles via its minimalist and straightforward interface.

To start grabbing subtitles for your movies, you can either drag and drop them separately on Sub It's main window or drag your entire movie folder and let the app find the perfect subtitles for each of them.

Once the app collects the movie files, it will start searching for the most appropriate subtitles through its list of providers and download it to your Downloads folder or to any custom folder.

The download folder can be selected in the app's Preferences > Others tab, which you can access by clicking on the cogwheel button within Sub It's main screen.

Sub It's Preferences window also allows you to choose up to two different subtitle languages and to set it up to download hearing impaired friendly captions, if available.

After the testing phase, Sub It recommends itself as a simple to use macOS app for effortlessly downloading subtitles for movies, even though you need to put in a little extra effort to make it work because its dependency installer fails to do its job properly.
