Watching streams on the Twitch live video streaming platform is a popular past time for many people these days, and the chat side of the service is the place where its users can comment on the currently playing stream content.
The problem with the Twitch chat is that it is displayed as a sidebar next to the stream's video content, which means that if you watch the stream in theater mode, the chat will take enough screen estate to shrink down the video.
If you want to view the stream without having the stream shrunk down by the chat sidebar, you can use a chat client to connect to Twitch.tv's servers, and this is where Tc, a multi-platform Twitch chat client, comes to the rescue.
Moreover, Tc is an Electron-based application which you can use on macOS, Windows, and Linux, and designed to closely match the look of the official stream chat on the Twitch.tv website.
According to its homepage, Tc uses WebSockets to connect to Twitch's chat servers, and it allows you to keep a close eye on the stream you want to watch, not worrying about what's going on in the chat until you need to.
Although not sporting a user interface which follows Apple's Human Interface Guidelines for macOS apps, Tc's interface is user-friendly and well-thought out, as it gives you both a thumb preview of the stream and built-in per-user controls for quick messaging and moderation.
The user interface features a left side sidebar where you can find the chat user list, the user info panel and the stream thumbnail at the top, as well as a tab bar which allows you to rapidly switch between all open stream chats.
Tc also comes with support for all official, BTTV and FFZ emotes to help you convey your thoughts into the conversation better, and text shortcuts to effortlessly create custom text-based emotes.
Although Tc sports emote autocomplete, it doesn't provide you with an interface for quickly picking a particular emote as possible on the website chat, which will make it harder to pick the most appropriate emoticon for beginner Twitch chat users.
Taking all of the above into consideration, Tc is a must have application if you watch Twitch streams on a daily basis and you don't want the stream's video shrunk down by the chat sidebar.
