Cloud-focused command bar that lets you manage all your apps, search for files, open and create items, and even build your own commands, all from a Spotlight-like desktop interface #Command Bar #Cloud Search #Create Command #Command #Cloud #Search
Cloud-based apps have become so commonplace that we need new ways to work with them and manage their content from the desktop. Spotlight, while very useful, isn't designed for web apps. Until such features are added by Apple, you might need an alternative command bar.
Slapdash promises to be just that. It will remind you of Spotlight at first glance, but it offers greatly expanded functionality. Most importantly, it is designed to integrate with multiple web-based apps and services, allowing you to search for content and perform various actions straight from your desktop.
On first launch, Slapdash will recommend a set of apps based on the kind of work you do most often. You will need to connect to each of these in order to integrate them with Slapdash. Most popular services seem to be supported, and you can even install the optional Chrome extension to enable tab, bookmark, and history searches.
While the app is primarily designed for cloud-based apps, it is also capable of triggering various system commands, opening apps, and searching for files on your Mac, just like Spotlight.
Slapdash is meant to speed up your work, and to that end, it was designed to use predictable commands and rely solely on keyboard input. You just have to start typing whatever it is you need to do, and the app should provide a list of related commands.
For more complicated actions, you can even create your own commands from scratch, assign shortcuts, and share them with your team. What's more, you can create Spaces to organize links and items, and then share these with team members as well.
Slapdash is pretty much what you would expect if Apple upgraded Spotlight to allow web app integration. It is simple to use and relies on intuitive commands, while also providing a lot of customization options and even an open development platform for companies that want to make the app an essential part of their workflow.
