Browse the latest Reddit posts in various subreddits, create custom channels and read user comments, with this straightforward OS X app. #Reddit client #Browse Reddit #Reddit browser #Reddit #Client #Browse
While most people probably do not consider it to be ‘the front page of the Internet’, those who have become accustomed to it often browse Reddit for hours and frequently check for new posts in the subreddits they are subscribed to.
Reeddit is an macOS app that seeks to provide you with an alternative way to stay up-to-date, as it allows you to read the latest posts without having to use a web browser.
First of all, it should be said that Reeddit can only be used to view posts and comments, as it is not possible to vote, post replies, send messages or check your inbox.
You cannot login with your existing Reddit account, which also means that your preferred list of subscriptions needs to be created manually.
Reeddit offers three layouts for you to choose from: it can display the sidebar and posts, only posts or include comments as well. You can switch between them by simply resizing the application window.
You can add any number of subreddits, either by browsing through a list provided by the app or by inserting their name manually, in the case of more obscure ones.
One feature many will probably find useful is the fact that you can create custom channels that group multiple subreddits together, making it easier to browse all of their contents at once.
While you can use the traditional hot, new, controversial or top parameters to sort posts, you cannot change the time frame, as it is limited to the current day. Moreover, ‘hot’ comments are always displayed first, and you cannot sort them in any other way.
One aspect that we found to be particularly grating is the fact that you cannot have the app list all the comments in a particular chain, as you have to click on each subsequent reply to display it.
To conclude, Reeddit is a useful app if you are looking for an alternative method of browsing Reddit on your Mac. However, because you cannot login with your existing account, vote or post comments, it just seems easier to fire up your web browser and use Reddit the old-fashioned way.
