Loop is an Electron-based desktop client for the Google Play Music service that offers you the possibility to avoid using the Adobe Flash Player and integrates with the operating system, so you get to control the playback by using the media keys.
By default, the Loop application simply loads the Google Play Music page in a separate window, and you need to log in by using the appropriate credentials on the first launch. However, if you check the “Remember me” box, the app will keep you logged in between sessions.
Once that is taken care of, you can interact with the Google Play Music website just like you would do in a browser: you can search for a track, artist, or album, explore your library, subscribe to podcasts or shop for new music.
Moreover, you also get the chance to manage playlists, create your own, or explore the automatically generated ones. Last but not least, you get the option to upload music, or manage your account settings, including the authorized devices and the recommendation history.
The bottom part of the Loop main window is reserved for the playback menu, and you can choose to either see the Google Play Music main page in the center area or switch to full-screen mode to visualize the cover art.
The best part is that Loop fully integrates with Mac OS X, which means that you get to use the default media keys to pause or start the playback, or to jump to the previous or next track.
What’s more, Loop will display alerts via the Notification Center when the track changes, so you don’t need to constantly go back and forth to the application.
To sum up, Loop provides an alternative solution for listening to music by using the Google Play Music service without cluttering your browser or your desktop.
Loop delivers full access to the account management functions, while allowing the user to control the playback by using the keyboard and see the new track information via Notification Center messages.
