HNU offers you the possibility to access and interact outside the browser with the Hacker News online platform for sharing interesting articles, ideas, opinions, or even asking questions.

The HNU utility is based on Electron, provides support for connecting to and managing your Hacker News account, and comes with multiple interface themes.

Right off the bat, HNU connects to the Hacker News social platform and grabs the main feed even though you have not connected to your account. However, keep in mind that you need to login if you want to upvote posts, add comments, or submit new questions or URLs.

In you want to learn more about the Hacker News community make sure to read the welcome message and the official guidelines. At the same time, you get to filter the feed by different criteria: new, threads, comments, show, ask, or jobs.

Note that the text posts are opened within the HNU application, while links are sent to your default web browser. Nonetheless, you can read or post comments to both types of entries without leaving the app.

HNU comes with submitting capabilities so you can easily share links or only text content: naturally, you must be logged into an account to complete the process.

To streamline the user interaction, HNU comes with hotkeys for the most frequently used functions (there are no buttons included in the interface): Go back (CMD+backspace), Refresh (CMD+R), Get current URL (CMD+L), or Submit (CMD+S).

Moreover, HNU offers you the possibility to see details about your account (creation date, karma, shared stories, posted comments, and so on), but also enables you to complete your profile by offering more information about yourself to the other community members.
