Gitter For Mac

Gitter is an online service that enables you to quickly setup both private and public chat rooms for your GitHub account. This way you can easily communicate with other developers that work on the same project, or have the same interests.

The Gitter application is the desktop companion utility that can run on Mac OS X and eliminates the need to go through your web browser. Note that Gitter also provides client apps for iOS and Android devices.

To access the Gitter service, all you have to do is login with your GitHub credentials and authorize the usage of the app with your account. Note that Gitter comes with a free subscription that limits the service to a single private room, and only 2 weeks of chat history. For unlimited access to the service you must pay a monthly fee.

Gitter works right out of the box and allows you to quickly setup new rooms by defining your own rules and permissions, or by using GitHub repositories. Moreover, Gitter offers you the possibility to create separate rooms for private chat sessions.

Besides the basic functionalities, the Gitter chat panel also includes Markdown and syntax highlighting support: activate the Markdown Help panel to see the list with all supported commands. Gitter can integrate various other services, features a flexible API, and allows you to employ custom webhooks.

The Gitter application offers you the possibility to access all the functionalities provided by the Gitter web service without having to clutter your web browser. The app preserves the web interface design, which is fairly intuitive to use: you can easily create new chat rooms, join existing ones, send markdown enabled messages to other users, receive notifications, and so on.
