Forest For Mac

Forest is a small extension that aims to help you stay focused on work even though you are in a web browser. Besides the Firefox and Chrome add-ons, the project also features companion apps for iOS and Android.

To deploy the Forest add-on you need to navigate to the appropriate store pages in the respective host browsers and go through the usual procedure. The Forest icon will be added next to the address bar, and you get to start a 30 minutes working session with a mouse click.

Note that each new counter represents the time needed by a small tree to grow: if you manage to stay focused on your work you will be able to share the tree with your friends on social media (Twitter and Facebook).

However, if you give up the tree will die: you get to see how it loses its leaves, withers and disappears. Of course, you can always start over, but you will still feel uneasy giving up.

Before starting the timer, make sure to navigate to the extension’s Settings panel and decide if you want to make sure certain websites are blocked, or that all pages are tackled except the ones included by the user in the whitelist.

The same Forest Settings area offers you the possibility to connect to your account and sync the data to your mobile device.

Worth mentioning is that you can get an account only by installing the companion app on your mobile device and getting access to additional functions, including more tree designs, via in-app purchases.

Forest integrates with your web browser and helps you visualize the product of your hard work: a small tree is growing with each timer, and if you get an account you even get to make a forest from scratch.

The Forest add-on allows you to choose between defining a whitelist or creating a blacklist and sends encouraging messages every time you open its panel to check on the tree.
