Access data stored in multiple cloud storage accounts via the Finder, with the help of this minimalist status bar menu application that syncs everything to your Mac #Sync cloud storage #Access cloud storage #Connect storage account #Sync #Cloud #Storage
CrossCloud is a small OS X utility that stays out of your way and works in the background to sync to your Mac the files stored on multiple cloud storage solutions.
As soon as you connect the app to an account, via the web browser in some cases, CrossCloud will start the synchronization process.
The CrossCloud app currently works with Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, OwnCloud and WebDAV accounts, and you can connect with multiple accounts for the same service.
When you launch the CrossCloud application you will be prompted to create an account free of charge, but this is optional: you can skip the step and proceed to just syncing accounts. However, if you have an account, you can also try the CrossCloud Aurora solution for managing the cloud storage for an entire team.
The CrossCloud app comes with a minimalist design, but also displays small tooltips for the central functions: adding accounts, opening the synchronization folder, checking the sync status, or accessing the Settings menu.
Note that in the case of certain types of accounts, CrossCloud will launch the authorization web page in your default web browser: you must be logged into the target account and confirm that CrossCloud can control it.
Within the CrossCloud main window, you will be able to see the list of files that have been recently synced, together with the number of items that still need to be downloaded. Note that you can also pause the syncing and resume the task from where it stopped at any time.
The CrossCloud sync folder will be opened in the Finder, and you can interact with the included files without any restrictions. The drawback is that you cannot identify the files and folders associated with a particular cloud storage account.
Via the CrossCloud Settings menu, you can see the currently active accounts together with details about how much of the available space you are using. The same menu allows you to activate the encryption function or change the sync folder.
To sum up, CrossCloud provides an alternative solution for accessing and managing content stored on various cloud storage solutions: all the data is synced to a single folder, and you get to access the files without worrying about their location.
Nonetheless, the CrossCloud project is still in beta stage, so some of the available functions might not work as expected at all times.
