The Overcast website brings together an extensive collection of podcasts that you can listen in your browser with the help of a web player. The service comes with a companion application for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Cloudy is a simple OS X app designed to allow you to listen to the podcasts outside the browser, in order to reduce the clutter and the resources usage.

Even though you can register for an Overcast account free of charge, you get to perform this action only through the associated iOS application. Using an account is preferable because you can subscribe to podcasts and receive notifications for new episodes releases.

However, in the Cloudy main window, you can only access the Overcast web console. As a result, if you don’t already have an account, you must manually search for podcasts every time.

Moreover, in contrast to the iOS version, when you use the web player, the episodes are not automatically downloaded, so an internet connection is required at all times.

In the top right corner of the Cloudy window, a simple search bar enables you to input keywords and instantly starts displaying matching podcasts in a drop down menu.

Select a collection that matches your interest and you will be able to see all the associated episodes in the Cloudy main window.

Each episode comes with a small description, and you can quickly start or pause the playback. Additional controls include the possibility to increase the playback speed, or to jump back or forward for 30 seconds.
