Tag Assistant is a Google Chrome add-on that integrates with the web browser and evaluates the tags currently installed on any page. This way you can check if the tags are installed correctly and learn more about possible errors.

To install the Tag Assistant add-on, you need to navigate to the appropriate Chrome Store page within the host application and press the “Add to Chrome” button present on the page.

The Tag Assistant icon will be placed next to the address bar, and the graphic employs different color codes to let you know if there are any tags detected and up and running (green), or if it has encountered errors (red).

Keep in mind that you get to decide which types of add-ons you want Tag Assistant to look for: Google Analytics, Google Trusted Stores, AdWords Conversion Tracking/Remarketing, Floodlight, DFA/DFP, or Google Publisher Tag. The add-on can validate only the selected pages or all pages.

Within the Tag Assistant panel, you get to see the list of tags detected on the page, review their status, the associated metadata (web property ID, the code version syntax, the referral, the protocol version number), the code snippet, or the cookies.

Note that you can also opt to record tags while you are browsing through your website and then review the data to get a complete view of how everything works. What’s more, in the add-on’s Options panel you get to set the level of detail that should be applied for each tag type.
