Minimalistic image viewer with a trimmed-down interface, simple controls, navigation features, and lots of customization options. #Image Viewer #Image Browser #Image Navigator #Viewer #Image #Browser
Preview isn’t a bad image viewer, but it’s not suitable for easily navigating through all images in a folder, and your only other option is Quick Look, which is quite limited in what it can do.
Picview was created as an alternative to Preview, providing something more similar to the user experience you would have on Windows. It allows for quick navigation, features a minimalistic UI, and has quite a few features on offer.
Once you’ve set the app as your preferred image viewer, and you’ve given it the required permissions, you can open any image in a folder and then navigate through all other files using the arrow keys or toolbar controls.
Zooming in our out is done via the scroll wheel, the up and down arrow keys, or a two-finger swipe gesture. You can also rotate and flip images or start a slideshow with a custom timer and navigation order.
If you don’t need any image information or image controls on the screen, the app’s interface will consist of the image alone, which is great for maximizing your screen space and just looks really cool.
If you do need a little something extra, you can enable the toolbar, title bar (which displays image info), sidebar (for navigation), and the inspector (for viewing EXIF data).
From Picview’s settings, you can specify how it should open, which UI elements should be visible, how images should be displayed, mouse and scroll behavior, and much more.
You can have one or more app windows open at the same time, you can pin images to the desktop, without any UI elements, and images or text can be pinned to the desktop.
Picview has all the features you would expect from a quality image viewer, and it’s definitely an improvement over Preview for quick navigation. While it’s a paid app, the price is reasonable, which is a good thing given the demo version’s limitations.
