Tux Paint is an educational drawing program designed for preschool and K6 students that combines amusing sound effects with an intuitive graphic user interface. The app provides quick access to various tools that will allow kids to draw anything on the canvas.

The installation procedure is reduced to a simple drag and drop, but the first time you launch the utility it will have to cache the fonts installed on your Mac, a procedure that usually takes some time. The good news is that Tux Paint will have to do this only once.

The app allows you to save your projects within the app, and enables you to organize them in slideshows. When navigating the “picturebook” in slideshow mode, the application offers you the possibility to adjust the playback speed, or you can control the slides using the arrow keys.

Tux Paint comes with a collection of starter images that include coloring books style images, photographic scenes that can be used as a background, vector graphics, and a number of KidPix templates.

Within the user interface, all the drawing tools are organized into quickly accessible toolbars: simply select the instrument you want to use from the left side panel, and customize its output from the toolbar placed on the right side.

The app comes with support for paint brushes, rubber stamps, line/shape/text/label tools, erase, and undo. Moreover, you will have access to a large collection of special effects.

1-Point, 2-Point, and 3-Point Perspective:
Three pairs of new tools provide ways to easily sketch drawings in Tux Paint using 1-, 2-, and 3-point perspective, as well as adjusting the different perspectives' vanishing points. The drawing tools are similar to the Line tool, except only certain angles are possible, based on the position of the line relative to the vanishing points. For example, in 1- and 2-point perspective, lines may be drawn vertically and horizontally, but diagonally they must always be angled toward or away from the vanishing point(s).
