A free and open-source application that enables you to freely process and edit unstructured 3D triangular meshes from within a user-friendly interface. #Mesh editor #Process mesh #3D mesh renderer #3D mesh #Editor #Processor
MeshLab is a straightforward mesh processing system specially made for user assisted editing, filtering, cleaning and rendering of large unstructured 3D triangular meshes.
You can rely on MeshLab to process various unstructured models resulted from 3D scans. During your work you will be assisted by a series of editing tools that can help you edit, inspect, heal, clean, render and convert various meshes types.
It is worth mentioning that MeshLab’s architecture and the core mesh processing engine are mainly based on the VCG library developed at the Visual Computing Lab of ISTI - CNR.
MeshLab comes with a simple and clean interface that enables you to focus on your work and avoid other distractions. The top toolbar provide you instant access to the required tools, but you can access additional tools using the status bar menus.
Thanks to the Painting interface you can easily select, smoothen and color your meshes while the interactive selection tool helps you make precise selection and delete unwanted portions of the mesh.
MeshLab comes with numerous mesh cleaning filters that you can use to remove small isolated components, duplicated, unreferenced vertices and null faces. On top of that, you can erase non manifold faces and automatically fill all existing holes.
The remeshing filters are just as important since they can help you reconstruct the surface between points, fill holes, subdivide surfaces while preserving the smoothing and fairing filters. Between the colorization and inspection filters you can find the Gaussian and mean curvature, border edges, geodesic distance, two-manifold edges and vertices, ambient occlusions, color painting, selection painting and more.
With the help of the measurement tool you can easily take linear measurements between points, while the slicing tool allows you to export planar section of a mesh in the SVG format. Speaking of export, MeshLab comes with powerful import and export features.
Consequently, you can import projects and files in a wide variety of formats ranging from PLY, OFF, STL, 3DS, OBJ, COLLADA, V3D, PTX, DXF, PTS, XYZ, U3D, TRI, ASC, ALN, VRML and others.
