Material Colors For Mac

Material Colors is a minimalist application developed to meet the needs of graphic designers that work with the standard material color palette. The utility can be used to both preview the colors and extract their code to be used in third party apps.

By default, Material Colors launches as a status bar application: the menu associated with the small icon placed in your status bar allows you to open the color panel, but also includes the option to switch to the normal app mode.

The latter moves the Material Colors icon to your Dock and frees up space in the status bar. Moreover, clicking the Material Colors Dock icon will automatically launch the color panel: you don’t have to deal with any menu.

Material Colors does not come with any customization options and does not integrate hotkey support, not even for default OS X functions like hiding or closing the window. The only supported keyboard combination is Command + Q for quitting the app.

Within the Material Colors panel, you get to see all the colors included in the standard material design color palette. When you click on a particular color, you get to view all available shades, together with their name and color code.

Whenever you hover your mouse on top of a color code, you will notice that the data will become highlighted. Moreover, if you click your mouse on top of it, the code will be quickly placed on your clipboard.

To sum up, Material Colors is a minimalist and unobtrusive solution for gaining access to the standard color palette. The utility can eliminate the need to run an extensive search when you need a color code, yet it lacks hotkeys support which might make things even faster.
