A free, cross-platform vector graphics design app that comes with tons of built-in assets and templates, and plenty of features to customize them and create new objects #Graphic Design #Graphic Editor #Vector Design #Graphic #Design #Illustration
Graphic design can get quite expensive and time-consuming, what with monthly app subscriptions, finding assets, and buying hardware that's not going to bog down after adding a couple of images.
Lunacy is meant to be a cost-free, easy-to-use, and lightweight alternative to established vector graphics software. It's built around an intuitive UI and workflow, includes numerous assets and image editing tools, and is available as a native app for all three major platforms: macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Aside from being completely free to use, the app comes bundled with a large collection of icons, illustrations, and photos, as well as UI kits from Apple, Microsoft, and Google. However, note that some of the resources are only available via subscription, and the free plan requires that you link to icons8.com when using the assets.
Not only do you not have to waste time searching for graphics, but common tasks can also be done more quickly. You can upscale images for larger UIs, remove backgrounds, and generate text and avatars, all with a couple of clicks.
If you're just starting out, Lunacy is a great option. The simple UI layout makes it easier to find everything you need, you get a comprehensive tutorial that walks you through the app's main features, and the included assets can bring your first project to life in no time.
For professionals that are already accustomed to other software, Lunacy can do a great job of simplifying cumbersome, repetitive tasks, allowing you to complete a design faster without getting sidetracked. The fact that it uses the .sketch format also makes transitioning much simpler.
In the age of always-online services, web apps, and Electron wrappers, it's nice to see a cross-platform application running on native code. That, plus the app's lightweight design, makes it suitable for older Macs as well. However, native support for Apple Silicon processors would be a nice addition.
While Lunacy is perfectly capable of running without an internet connection, it also offers collaboration features, something we can't really do without nowadays. You can work in real-time with up to 100 users to get better, faster designs.
If you're looking for a free vector graphics editor, particularly one that's easy to get started with, Lunacy is hard to beat. It's also worth a try if you're an established professional, as it may help you cut costs and save time.
