Knoll Unmult is an easy-to-use Adobe After Effects plug-in that will help you create mattes generated from an image or video recorded on a black background.

To put it simply, Knoll Unmult allows you to make an alpha channel from any video shot with a black background and can generate alpha channels for flares rendered on black backdrops as well.

It is worth noting that this plug-in is designed for Adobe After Effects CS3, CS4 and CS5. It will not work with the latest versions of the animation and creative compositing application. Also, it appears to have been discontinued, so it is unlikely that a newer, compatible edition will be released.

Knoll Unmult is installed just like any other Adobe After Effects plug-in and will be accessible from the effects control panel. All you need to do is find it in the list of available tools and select it after the media you are working with has been prepared accordingly.
