Many communication apps and services already integrate some kind of GIF finder, but not all of them, and the functionality isn't always as straightforward as users would like.

InsertGif is intended to serve as a universal tool for finding and adding GIFs to conversations, emails, documents, etc. Since it can be controlled entirely with keyboard shortcuts, it can even serve as a replacement for similar functions found in various apps.

To open the app, you can either click its icon in the Dock/menu bar or just use the ⇧⌘I hotkey. Next, just type a keyword and navigate through the results until you find the perfect GIF.

For exporting, you have several options. You can just copy the GIFs URL to the clipboard, but the app also lets you format it as an HTML image or Markdown, which is useful for adding GIFs to emails or GitHub.

If you switch to expert mode, everything can be controlled with the keyboard, and the app is removed from your Dock. For power users, this feature can make the app better than many apps' built-in GIF functionalities.

After using the hotkey to bring up the window, you can search for a particular term and use Tab or ⇧Tab to cycle through the options. Then, just press ⇧Enter to paste the GIF in the highlighted application directly. For pasting it as an HTML image or Markdown, you can use ⌃⇧Enter and ⌥⇧Enter respectively.

InsertGif doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does a good job of polishing it and maximizing the productivity of experienced rollers. One downside is that finding the right GIF may be difficult at times due to the fact that you have to cycle through them one by one, instead of looking at a list of thumbnails.
