Iconical For Mac

Iconical aims to make the icon creation process when developing new iOS or Mac applications as simple as possible. Once you have the source design, Iconical can help you produce icons of various sizes without wasting too much time or energy.

The Iconical user interface is represented by a simple window where you get to import and preview the source image, specify the output location and format, select the icon sizes from a list, and then directly press the Export button.

Iconical provides confirmation messages and tries to launch the output folder in a Finder window when the procedure is done.

However, during our test, Iconical has not been able to perform the second task. Since the process is completed almost instantly, just navigate to the respective directory after clicking the Export button.

Note that Iconical will generate a separate folder named AppIcon.appiconset within the specified output directory. Here you can find all the created icons together with a JSON file that lists the folder’s content.

Within the Iconical main window, you can see the list of supported icon sizes organized by platform. The utility can produce icons for the iPad, iPad Pro, iPhone, and Mac, and features support for all the standard sizes.

If you import a new image into Iconical and start generating icons into the same output folder, the app will prompt you if you want to replace any previously created icons. To avoid any troubles, you get to see a message about the fact that the existing icons will be replaced right above the Export button. That means that you need to either use a different output format or move the first set to another folder beforehand.

To sum up, Iconical provides a streamlined solution for generating icons at all sizes required for an iPhone, iPad, iPad Pro, or Mac app. Just keep in mind that the original icon resolution has to be big enough to be resized to all standard sizes.
