A well-known rule of the Internet is that whatever you’re trying to express, there is probably a relevant GIF out there that can get the point across. The problem is finding it, and this is when apps like GIFme can prove useful.

GIF repositories such as Giphy do a pretty good job of aggregating these animations, but you can’t exactly search for something without a browser. If you want to always have the right GIF at hand, an app that resides in your menu bar is probably the best choice.

When you find yourself in need of a GIF, just click the app’s menu bar icon and type one or multiple keywords; based on these, the extensive Giphy database will be queried and the results displayed in the main window.

While only a single GIF will be visible initially, you can click the Next button to navigate through the available results. This method isn’t particularly quick, however, and there is no way to view multiple images at once.

After finding the right one, you can save it by either clicking the download button or dragging the GIF to your desktop. What’s more, you can also drag it into any application that supports GIF content.

Alternatively, you can have the app generate a Giphy link and then share it with others without downloading anything. However, note that the Giphy “watermark” will also be visible when using this method.

When it comes to the UI, the less said the better. GIFme’s visual design is as basic as it gets, and the interface could have been shrunk down significantly without eliminating any features.

This is a fun app for GIF lovers, but the user interface is far from impressive. Nevertheless, it can help you find the animations you need, as well as save or share them, directly from your menu bar.
