Intuitive image upscaler that includes several AI models, supports batch processing, and allows you to customize various parameters to get the right result #Upscale Image #Image Upscaler #AI Upscale #Upscale #Upscaler #AI
Before AI image generation was all the rage, the technology was used to upscale images, increasing their resolution without creating a pixelated mess. Upscaling models are freely available, but they are difficult to use without a user-friendly GUI.
Final2x is an open-source, cross-platform app designed to make it easy for anyone to upscale images. It supports a few popular upscaling models, and it relies on simple drag and drop, with some customization options included as well.
This app is nothing is not straightforward to use. All you have to do is drop one or more images in the main window, and then click the start button to begin processing. While you don’t get a progress bar, you can get a good idea of how things are going from the log.
Ideally, before you actually start upscaling, you should check the app’s settings and tweak them as needed. Some simple tooltips are available if you hover over each option, which should prove helpful.
However, it would have been great if there was a way to compare the before and after images in order to spot differences and see what improvements have been made.
Final2x bundles support for RealCUGAN, RealESRGAN, Waifu2x, and SRMD. Each model is best suited for a specific type of image, and they all have different parameters that can be tweaked. Trial and error will be the best approach if you’re not familiar with the models.
The app is also available for Windows and Linux, which is great, but it does that by running on Electron, which is not so great. Still, while it may not be the most efficient upscaler out there, it’s free and usable on any platform.
As far as the quality of the upscaling process, that depends entirely on the AI models and your settings, with Final2x acting as a frontend. Its job is to make the process more intuitive, and it definitely delivers on that front.
Essentially, if you need a simple, quick upscaler that won’t break your brain and works on all major platforms, Final2x is a good choice. It will take some trial and error, especially since it doesn’t let you compare the original and upscaled images, but it will do the job.
