ColorCompass For Mac

ColorCompass is designed to help colorblind people identify simple colors with ease. The utility scans the screen each time you move your mouse and lets you know the name of the color currently pointed out by the cursor.

Upon launch, ColorCompass will place a small menulet in your status bar together with a minimalist panel where you get to see the color names. ColorCompass works well with any other utility and does not interfere with your workflow in any way.

Note that the app does not come with any customization options: you can add it to the list of login items, but that is about it. If you need to adjust the size of the color naming panel or change the font size, you are out of luck.

ColorCompass allows you to change the color naming panel location on your screen, and will also remember your settings between sessions.

ColorCompass reduces all the colors present on your screen to 10 names: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, violet, pink, gray, and black. The app will also classify the color into main hues.

As a result, in certain situations, besides the main color name, in the ColorCompass panel, you will also be able to see the hue of the currently selected color. This way, ColorCompass can help colorblind people to distinguish between reddish or yellowish brown for example with ease.

ColorCompass can be of great help to people that are not able to identify colors correctly. The app displays the name of the colors in a user-friendly format that can be easily understood by anyone, instead of relying on complex color codes that have to be memorized.
