Quickly compress JPG, PNG, and GIF images whenever they are copied to the clipboard, with simple menu bar app for users who need to reduce file sizes as much as possible #Compress Image #Compress PNG #Compress JPG #Compress #Optimize #Image
There tend to be two types of people when working with images: those who need the highest possible quality, and those who just want them to be as small as possible. For the former, you need professional equipment, and for the latter, you can use something like Clop.
Clop is a very small app that offers a quick and dirty method of compressing JPG, PNG, and GIF files. It requires no change to your workflow, as it processes them as soon as the images are copied to the clipboard. However, it cannot be configured and will sacrifice quality in order to reduce file size.
Whatever it is you do with images, as long as it involves copying them to the clipboard at any point, this app can process them without getting in the way. You can then paste the compressed image anywhere you like.
Of course, you should make sure you’re copying the image, not the file. It’s enough to just open the file in Preview and use Cmd+C, and it will work the same in any image editor.
Now, if you just want your files to be as small as possible, Clop is great, but image quality will definitely suffer. It uses pngquant for PNG, jpegoptim for JPG, and gifsicle for GIF, which normally allow you to configure various quality settings, but this app doesn’t give you that option.
There are just a few settings that can be changed from the menu bar. You can hide the notification that tells you how much an image has been compressed, disable optimization of TIFF data, and remove the app’s icon from the menu bar. That’s about it.
In short, Clop is ideal for users who copy images to the clipboard as part of their workflow and only care about the smallest possible file size. If quality is a concern, you might want to go for a more customizable compression tool.
