Hero of the Kingdom II is a casual adventure game in which you guide your hero on a far-reaching journey, as he attempts to rescue his sister from the clutches or a notorious pirate crew and bring peace to the kingdom.

If you have played Hero of the Kingdom, this second game in the series should be right up your alley. For the most part, it offers more of the same, as the gameplay mechanics are largely unchanged, and the only major difference lies in the setting.

However, the scale of the similarities is a bit disappointing. While the first game in the series was very enjoyable, this second installment brings little innovation. Even the premise is almost the same, and the protagonist’s personality is pretty much identical.

Hero of the Kingdom II is not a title that will have you on the edge of your seat as you overcome challenging encounters or make difficult decisions. The gameplay mainly revolves around gathering resources and improving your skillset, with the aim of becoming strong or experienced enough to complete the quests you receive on your journey.

You will need to explore each area, find useful hidden items, trade with merchants and talk to the many characters that, for some reason, all seem to need your help. Work too hard, however, and you will run out of strength, so you will need to rest before you can perform any other actions.

While the 2D graphics are nothing spectacular, they fit the game’s style very well and the numerous regions you travel across offer enough variety to keep things interesting.

The background music is also very pleasant, although the sound effects are not particularly impressive.

Overall, Hero of the Kingdom II is a title that casual gamers should find to be very enjoyable, especially those who have appreciated the prequel. It does not bring a lot of innovation, however, so expect more of the same if you have played the first game in the series.
