RSS feeds make it easy to stay up-to-date with the latest articles on various websites, and news aggregator services try to bring these feeds together and allow the user to more easily manage them. But what if you use several of these services, or you aren’t happy with their desktop applications?
ReadKit is meant to be an answer to that question. It serves as a standalone feed reader and also supports multiple popular news aggregators, allowing you to log in and manage all of them from a single desktop interface.
At first glance, what stands out is how well the app is put together. The interface is incredibly intuitive, and it features a design very similar to that of Apple’s built-in apps. It certainly looks like something Apple would have developed.
If you don’t use any news aggregators, you can just select the app’s built-in RSS engine during the initial configuration, and then start adding RSS feeds one by one.
Services such as Feedly, The Old Reader, Pocket, and Pinboard make it easier to find and organize news feeds. ReadKit serves as a client for these services, allowing you to log in with your credentials and manage these accounts from a single unified user interface.
You can connect to multiple accounts at once, and you can switch between them using a button in the top-left corner.
Feeds can be organized into folders and using tags. The reader mode can extract text from articles automatically, and it can be enabled by default for any of your feeds.
The user interface itself can be personalized in-depth. Aside from the general layout, you can switch between multiple themes, configure advanced display options for articles and feeds, and of course, various font settings are available.
ReadKit truly is an excellent RSS and news aggregator client, providing you with an accessible and neat-looking interface for accessing and reading news. The free version offers a decent amount of features, while the paid one unlocks additional management and reading tools, while removing the feed number limitation.
