OpenNumismat For Mac

Collecting coins may be an old-fashioned hobby, but that doesn't mean you can't use technology to your advantage. We have software for almost anything, so why not for your coins as well? OpenNumismat, as the name suggests, is an open-source app for people interested in coins. It helps you manage your collection, find and store information about items you have and those you would like to purchase, as well as view statistics and generate reports.

If you've been doing this for a while, chances are that you already have a digitized coin collection created with another similar application. OpenNumismat lets you import data from a bunch of these apps, or even Excel spreadsheets.

But even if you have to start from scratch, it shouldn't be that hard. A demo database gives you an idea of how data can be entered, and there are numerous fields where you can add any significant piece of information you have. You can also attach photos to each listing.

There are separate tabs for your coin catalog and collection, allowing you to store information about all coins you're interested in, and those you own. You can sort them in various ways, batch edit entries, duplicate coins to add similar ones easily, and more. There's even a built-in image editor.

As is to be expected, OpenNumismat can provide comprehensive statistics, and you can generate reports and export them to various formats.

While it has plenty of features, the app's design has not kept up with the times. Build with cross-platform compatibility in mind, the user interface is very out of date, and it can make the app tricky to use at times. For instance, tab descriptions are not visible when one is selected, and the Edit window takes up a lot of screen space and cannot be resized vertically.

Overall, OpenNumismat has all the features a coin collector would need, but the packaging could use some improvements. With a UI upgrade for the Mac version, this app would be a lot easier to recommend.
