The glockenspiel is a percussion instrument that is highly popular among small children because it is so simple to play. The instrument is composed of a set of bars that resonate into different pitches, similar with the keyboard of a piano.

At the same time, the children glockenspiels are also using different colors for each bar: this way the kid gets familiarized with different sounds and colors at the same time.

CutieMelody is a small Mac OS X application that enables you to place a basic glockenspiel instrument on your computer’s desktop. Note that the app’s user interface is very colorful but has no customization options.

However, CutieMelody comes with fullscreen support you can choose to switch to that mode at any time. Since the game can be controlled both with the keyboard and with the mouse, this is very useful because your child will not be able to move to another window.

CutieMelody is using the standard pitch notation and places the letter associated to each pitch in the top area of each bar.  Take into account that the app is also making a difference between high and low tonalities.

To play the CutieMelody glockenspiel, simply move your mouse around the bars and click on the one you want to play. Moreover, CutieMelody also makes an association between your keyboard and the glockenspiel bars.

CutieMelody allows you to use both the number and the letter keys: the children can experiment to find all the keys associated to a tonality (which are arranged by columns) and learn to differentiate between the sounds.

CutieMelody does not come with a complex user interface or extensive customization options: the colorful glockenspiel is placed in the middle of the screen and the background is represented by a relaxing animation featuring musical notes.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for a beautiful glockenspiel that can be played even by small children, CutieMelody certainly deserves your attention.
