Lektor can help you generate static websites starting from flat files and enables you to manage their content in a user-friendly manner. The solution integrates an admin console that enables content editors to update the websites without having to deal with any design task.

Lektor comes as a standalone application, but via the app’s main menu you can also install the companion shell command. At the moment, the Lektor app does not integrate project management functions, so you must use the command line to build new projects.

Note that if you type the “lektor” command in the Terminal, you will be able to see detailed usage instructions. Moreover, the “lektor quickstart” command helps you build a new project that can optionally include a basic blog structure.

To preview and further edit your projects, open the generated .lektorproject file via the Lektor desktop application. The utility will build the project, and all you have to do next is select either the Browse Website or View Admin Panel options and Lektor will launch the appropriate pages in your default web browser.

In the Lektor Admin console, you can see the structure of your website together with all subpages, and add new subpages, attachments, or text content in a streamlined and highly intuitive manner.

The results can be previewed in real time, and you should be able to publish the website online with a simple mouse click, even though at the moment it is not possible to configure the target server via the admin console.

With Lektor, designers get to generate and design the websites, while the content editors can update their part of the project without having to deal with the design aspects, and vice versa.

Since the websites created with Lektor are static, you can use version control systems for team collaboration, or you can simply share them via any cloud storage solution.
