PlatformIO IDE offers you the possibility to work on IoT (Internet of Things) projects in a well-organized environment that includes quick access to boards, development platforms, frameworks, and other required resources.

The PlatformIO IDE is based on the GitHub Atom text code editor and preserves the original design, which makes navigating projects quite intuitive. However, to have access to the PlatformIO IDE, you must wait for the installation to complete.

PlatformIO IDE will act as a plug-in deployed on top of the Atom installation, and comes with a separate menu where you can access its functions and configure the behavior. At the same time, PlatformIO IDE will add a toolbar that includes buttons for the most frequently used features in the Atom main window.

PlatformIO IDE is compatible both with Arduino and MBED platforms and featured more than 200 different boards that you get to employ when creating new projects. To help you get started, PlatformIO IDE also features an extensive collection of example projects.

PlatformIO IDE is able to work with more that 15 different development platforms and 10 different frameworks. Keep in mind that all the available resources are embedded within the IDE so you do not have to manually install anything.

Via the PlatformIO IDE menu, you can trigger the update process for the platform and libraries or PlatformIO CLI, but also for the Atom packages.

On top of the user-friendly workflow offered by the Atom code editor, PlatformIO IDE comes with code completion functions, a smart code linter, a platform command line interface, a Serial Port monitor, and so on.
