Piskel For Mac

Piskel is a graphic editor aimed at creating 2D animated sprites for your games in a streamlined manner. The utility allows you to preview the results and provides support for exporting the animation to the GIF image file format, among others.

Within the Piskel main window you get to start working on a new sprite animation right away: just create a new frame and make use of the built-in drawing tools (pen, vertical mirror pen, paint bucket, eraser, stroke, rectangle, or circle).

Piskel also integrates various selection tools, a color picker, and lighting and dithering tools. To streamline the editing process, Piskel also comes with hotkeys for most functions, and you get to see them in a well-organized panel until you commit them to memory.

Note that Piskel also provides support for using multiple layers in the same frame, which can help you create interesting effects. The editor also packs transformation capabilities (you get to flip or rotate the image, or clone the current layer).

To make sure you are satisfied with the result, Piskel also includes a preview area where you get to see the frames succession played at different speeds, going from 0 to 24 frames per second.

Once you are satisfied with the result, you get to export the sprite sheet in various scales as a PNG file. Moreover, you can generate a PNG file per frame and put them together in a ZIP archive. On the other hand, you get to export the graphs as GIF files that are sporting a user defined resolution.

On the other hand, you can also login to the piskelapp.com website using your Google account credentials, and Piskel will allow you to save your sprites online.

The Piskel online account is quite useful if you want to share your projects with others, but pay attention that you must specify if you wish to keep any of your sprites projects private.
