Minimalist time tracker utility that can work with multiple projects and quickly generate activity reports and export the data to CSV files. #Time tracker #Task timer #Activity report generator #Time #Tracker #Timer
Zone is a small macOS utility that resides in the status bar and helps you record how much time you spend on a particular task. The tool can work with only one timer at a time, automatically generates an activity chart, and enables you to export the information to a CSV file.
Right off the bat, Zone prompts you to define your jobs in the settings panel: you get to add as many entries as you like but keep in mind that there is a limited number of color labels you get to associate.
Even though the text field reserved for the task name can store a more extensive description for the timer, you will not be able to see the entire string within the Zone menu, or in the task manager window.
Once you set a task, Zone automatically adds the entry to the status bar menu, and you will be able to start the associated timer window a mouse click.
Keep in mind that Zone will start a new timer for each working session, and you will be able to see the start and end time in the reports window.
Via the Zone menu you also get to launch the Reports window, where you can see all the working sessions for the current week. To help you differentiate between the projects, Zone will use the associated color label for the representations.
Alternatively, Zone will display the information in list mode so that you can clearly see all the sessions affiliated with a particular task.
When you export the info to CSV, you can specify the period you want to extract, but you can also aggregate the information by days, or merge the sessions if the break is shorter than a given period.
Bottom line, Zone offers you a time efficient solution to start recording how much time you spend on a particular project. Worth mentioning is that Zone does not come with support for hierarchical tasks, cannot generate professional looking reports, and comes with a limited number of color labels.
However, Zone can prove to be quite enough if you need to deal with a reduced number of projects, and will even integrate with the Notification Center to let you know when your break is over.
