Time Relic is a simple and cross-platform tracking tool that aims to improve your productivity by recording your daily activities on your Mac and displaying them within a web-based interface.
Considering that the first step towards cutting down on distractions is to know which activities are actually distractions, Time Relic proposes a simple method that will help you keep an eye on your daily habits by tracking and displaying the period of time you spend using certain apps and websites.
First thing’s first, in order to get started using Time Relic, you must first log in using your account credentials, or register a new one using a valid email address, and allow the application to control your Mac. In order to do this, open the System Preferences app, go to Security and Privacy, select the Accessibility entry, and click on Time Relic’s check-box.
After Time Relic is installed on your Mac, it will integrate itself in OS X’s status bar and start to monitor your daily activities. By clicking Time Relic’s menu bar item, you can pause the tracking process for five minutes, one hour, or until tomorrow, and, more importantly, access the app’s Dashboard.
Time Relic’s Dashboard displays all tracked information within a well organized web-based interface. By default, the tracking information is displayed for the current day in an easy to read 24-hour graph.
Under the graph, the application provides you with a list of the top five most used documents and apps, as well as with the most visited websites, alongside with their total usage time. Optionally, from the date range drop-down menu, you can view your daily activities for different time spans, predefined or custom.
As a downside, during our test, Time Relic did not properly track the websites we have visited, although the application and documents tracking worked just fine.
By now, it is quite clear that in its current development stage, the application is not actually suited for business or enterprise usage due to its limited set of features (i.e. you cannot generate PDF, Excel, and CSV reports, or to handpick the apps that should be tracked by Time Relic).
As a final conclusion, Time Relic is a simple app that can help you get an accurate idea about the time you’ve spent working on your Mac, which, in turn, will boost your productivity.
