Rest Time For Mac

Breaks are a must if you work on a computer mainly because your eyes and hands need the rest, and taking well-timed breaks keeps you a lot more productive throughout the day.

Rest Time is a small status bar-based little utility designed to stay out of your way while you're chugging away and alert you using a full-screen notification that you need to take a break to prevent eye fatigue and repetitive strain injuries.

To start using Rest Time, you just have to double-click it and it will add a status bar item which enables you to keep an eye on the time left until the next time off period.

If you click its menulet, you will be presented with an HUD-styled interface, which gives you the possibility to force a recess, pause the countdown or delay it using a pre-defined amount of time, all of this via the toolbar built-in at the bottom of the interface.

You can also customize the time interval between breaks and the duration of each recess, as well as set the up to also use audio alerts, via the cog wheel button at the bottom right side of Rest Time's status bar menu.

Once the break countdown finishes, Rest Time will cover your screen with a black-colored screen, which includes a countdown and a pie bar graph displaying the amount of time left before the break.

While in recess mode, Rest Time displays an "End Break" button for two seconds after each ten seconds of the countdown, allowing you to get back to work if you need to.

As an added advantage, Rest Time comes with built-in support for multi-monitor setups and will automatically detect when you are no longer in front of your Mac and pause the countdown until you get back.

It also gives you an alert that you'll need to take a time out when the resting countdown reaches the 10-, 5- and 3-minute marks.

All things considered, Rest Time is the perfect utility for Mac users who forget to take a break once in a while. Having it running in the background allows you to prevent serious health problems such as RSI and eye strain, as well keep you focused on your tasks and a lot more productive.
